Parking along Warrior Way near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe will cost $100 a day from July 4th to 6th, Douglas County Community Services Director Brook Adie says.
Paying a hundred dollars a day to park at Lake Tahoe over the Fourth of July weekend may not be ideal for most of us, but the money is going towards local activities in Douglas County.
"The funds that are generated through this paid parking program go to support parks and trails up at the lake here in this area in Douglas County," Adie says.
Adie says that money will also go towards the Douglas County School District, Whitell Booster Club, and the Zephyr Cove Elementary parents' group.
The new fee is $60 higher than a normal weekend rate. Normally, Douglas County charges 20 dollars per day Monday through Friday and 40 dollars on weekends.
Some of the parking is used for the local park and library. Fortunately, Adie says a parking attendant will make sure lake-goers pay for parking and those using it for those other services will avoid the fee.
Back in 2023, Adie says Zephyr Cove Resort was too crowded, with too many people and not enough bathrooms and trash cans to go around. She says having Warrior Way available is a way to help reduce the amount of people parking at the resort.
This means everyone should have a seamless parking experience for the Fourth of July weekend at Lake Tahoe.
"We have an agreement with NDOT where we're going to have some additional temporary no parking signs all along Highway 50 to really get people to use this space," Adie says.
Adie says Warrior Way will serve as overflow parking this weekend. Douglas County residents will be able to park there for free.
