Emergency crews were called to an unusual rescue near Thomas Creek Road early Monday morning.
Washoe County Regional Animal Services says a horse wandered into a yard and fell into a swimming pool. The pool was covered, but since it was still dark, the horse probably didn't realize it wasn't hard ground and fell in.
They say the horse didn't belong to the home owner, and it was unclear how long it had been in the water.Â
A second horse was also seen wandering nearby.
Rescuers say the horse was tired, most likely trying to get of the pool for hours.Â
Authorities say while rescuers held its head above water to prevent drowning, the homeowner used a backhoe to pull the horse out where it was covered with blankets until the Comstock Equine Hospital could assess the horse.
Thankfully, authorities say the horse did not appear seriously injured, other than cuts and exhaustion.
Animal Services Officers were able to connect with the owner of both horses to be reunited.
