A fire near the University of Nevada, Reno campus prompted a rapid response from the Reno Fire Department and Reno Police Department after reports of white smoke were seen between Interstate 80 and University Terrace a little before 1 p.m.
Fire officials said they received the call and responded immediately to the area, where crews worked to control the flames.
An anonymous source on scene said the fire appeared to have started from a homeless encampment.
Reno Police Department deputies were also on scene and were seen talking to a person during the response.
Fire crews were able to keep the flames contained to the immediate area and prevent them from reaching a nearby fraternity and sorority house.
The situation remains under investigation.
