Former Sparks Fire Chief Don Young has died. 

The Sparks Fire Department announced his passing on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon with the following post: 

"It is with great sadness that we share of retired Sparks Fire Chief Don Young's passing last Friday, March 6. Chief Young served our department for 33 years, including 14 years as Fire Chief. During his tenure and leadership, he played a key role in establishing our regional hazmat team and oversaw the creation of our Honor Guard. He retired in 1990.
