Four juveniles were arrested on Friday evening in possession of semi-automatic weapons.
It happened during a traffic stop at North Carson Street adjacent to I-580, according to a release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office.
During the traffic stop, deputies noticed suspicious items in the car. After the juveniles exited the car, three semi-automatic pistols were discovered.
The weapons were described as two 9mm and one .45 caliber pistol, none of which had serial numbers for identification.
All four juveniles were taken into custody and are being held at the Carson City Juvenile Detention Center on weapons-related charges.
As a precaution, in coordination with School District Officials, the Sheriff’s Office and Juvenile Probation Officers increased the assignment presence around high school events for the remainder of the weekend. However, no ongoing threat to the community is known.
The incident remains under investigation.
The car the juveniles were in was similar to one seen near the scene of a vandalism that had occurred the previous weekend.
That vandalism incident was one of two reported over the weekend of September 27. Between those two incidents, damage exceeded $50,000.
In both incidents on September 27, there was significant damage done to buildings and property.
One of the two incidents happened at NV Energy on Long Street. The other happened at John Mankins Park, located on Oak Ridge Drive.
The Sheriff's Office also mentions other vandalism incidents over the last six weeks.
All recent vandalism incidents in the area remain under investigation.
Anyone with information on the weapons arrests or the vandalism incidents is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office, Detective Henneberger, at (775) 283-7855.Â
