DECEMBER 11 UPDATE:

An investigation into glass-like objects found in frozen and reheated tater tots served to students at several Washoe County elementary schools has revealed that the objects appear to have originated outside the district.

The Washoe County School District notified Northern Nevada Public Health about the objects, as well as the FDA, according to a release from the district.

The national distributor of the tater tots is conducting its own investigation, and has issued a full recall on its tater tot products.

A total of 18 WCSD elementary schools reported finding the glass-like objects. Those schools are listed below.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE (NOVEMBER 25):

An item served at lunch on Tuesday at Washoe County School District elementary schools was found to contain small glass-like objects, with one student reporting an injury.

The food found to contain the objects was frozen and reheated tater tots, according to a release from the district.

One student reported a minor cut to their finger, but no other injuries have been reported.

The district has started an investigation, and WCSD Nutrition Services has ordered all schools to immediately remove all tater tots.

The district also notified the national distributor and vendor who provided the food.

Staff at 12 elementary schools reported the objects, according to the district. There are currently no reports of any other schools being affected.
