Kevin Weir, a Reno local, was in the GSR valet area waiting for a shuttle to take him to the airport to catch a flight to go to his mother's funeral when shots rang out.

"And as I was sitting there, I heard a loud bang to my left about 20 yards away, where the taxis pick up. And I thought at first it was some big piece of metal that had hit the ground, and it was so loud. And then all of a sudden, all the shots started and everybody started running. But I couldn't run because I have a prosthetic leg," he said.

Weir was just feet away from the suspected shooter when he hid behind some pillars. When he heard the gunfire stop, he found himself looking directly at the suspect, who Weir says had reloaded.

The gunman then shot him three times.

"I just was like, oh my God. In my head, I didn't have time to say anything. And then he just shot me. And initially I thought I was hit twice because I felt it hit my shoulder and up in my groin area. But he shot three times. I was hit twice in the shoulder and once in the groin," Weir said.

Weir collapsed to the ground as the suspect continued into the parking lot. While on the ground, he contacted 911, "I need multiple ambulances. I got a mass shooting at the GSR. And I need the police and multiple ambulances here ASAP."

The quick response time allowed Weir to get the medical attention he needed. He was taken to the E.R. before being placed in Intensive Care at Renown.

He says it's a miracle he wasn't hit in any vital areas.

"I was this close to not being here anymore. How he didn't hit me here...I don't know," he said.

Weir is recovering well and is even back upright.

"I'm able to walk around, just with a little bit of pain," he said. "But the doctors and the nurses and the staff here are the best."

Weir is hopeful to make a full recovery, but the mental aspect will always be there.

"It's just, something that you have to deal with mentally," he said. "That's the real challenge. I relive that every day, like, probably every minute or so in my head. Could I have done anything different? You know, there's nothing I could have done. And I'm just glad it...it just wasn't worse than it was. So, if you can get over the mental part, the physical part will heal."
