Heatwave

Western Nevada is facing a stretch of extreme weather as high pressure builds over the region, bringing triple-digit temperatures and heightened fire danger through the weekend.

According to a Facebook post from the National Weather Service Reno, gusty winds and low relative humidity will create “brief elevated to critical fire wx conditions” Wednesday afternoon, particularly from the Sierra Front into the western Nevada Basin and Range.

The agency warned residents to “avoid all activities that may cause a spark.”

In the same post, forecasters noted, “High pressure will bring a heatwave late this week into early next week w/ W NV valleys seeing the triple digits!

Be sure to plan your weekend accordingly & practice your heat safety precautions!”

On another note, Reno’s all-time high temperature is 108 degrees Fahrenheit, a record set on three different days, and one record the region hopes not to challenge again anytime soon.
