Nearly two months after a fire damaged several units at West View Townhomes, Reno fire investigators are still unable to determine a cause.

The July 26th fire affected eight units and displaced 12 people, off of north McCarran Blvd. and W. 7th Street.

A probable cause report says that a fire investigator has determined that the fire started in the backyard near one of the units but can't narrow down what caused it, only saying it remains 'undetermined' at this time.

The report was accessed through a public records request submitted by 2 News Nevada.

The investigator goes on to say that it appears the cause may be electrical but does rule out discarded smoking materials. The investigator also says the homeowners were not home at the time of the fire.

Sadly, two dogs and one cat died.

JULY 26, 2024:

According to the Reno Fire Department, the fire has been put out but crews are currently checking for any remaining fire in the walls and attic of the building.

About 54 firefighters and 16 engines responded to the call, which initially came in around 2:30 p.m.

Eight units were affected, seven of which were being lived in.

12 residents were displaced in total.

Five ferrets, two dogs and two cats were accounted for, and two dogs passed away in the fire.

Roads in the area are estimated to be closed until about 7:30 p.m. while crews continue working.

Crews are still investigating whether the fire started in the building or the surrounding vegetation.
