During investigations into a broad storage unit burglary, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office made several arrests.

The Southern Command Patrol Division of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) and the Yerington Police Department responded to several reported burglaries in March 2025 that targeted storage facilities in the City of Yerington, Smith Valley, and Mason Valley.

Deputies investigated break-ins at Mohave Storage, which is located on Amy Street in Yerington, and the Smith Valley Stor-All storage facilities, which are located near Highway 208 in Smith Valley.

The Yerington Police Department was simultaneously investigating several burglary reports at other storage unit locations inside the city limits.

Following a traffic stop on March 31, 34-year-old Jerady Joseph Smith, of Yerington, was taken into custody by the LCSO's Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Smith was initially arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and traffic-related violations. After discovering that Smith had pawned some of the stolen goods in Sparks, SIU detectives eventually identified him as a suspect in the Smith Valley Stor-All crime and many other burglaries in the City of Yerington.

Smith has been charged with several felonies, including burglary (several counts), grand larceny, grand larceny of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of a handgun, and destroying and concealing evidence.

He is presently being held at the Lyon County Jail with a total bail of $293,500.

Following a traffic stop, SIU detectives arrested 31-year-old Yerington resident Joseph Trenton Davis on April 1.

Davis had been identified as a suspect in the burglary investigation at Mohave Storage.

Davis is now being charged with numerous felonies, such as burglary, grand larceny, possession of/receiving stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and is presently being held at the Lyon County Jail with a total bail of $52,280.

A second suspect was discovered by SIU detectives investigating the Mohave Storage burglary: 33-year-old Christian Cox, a Mohave Storage employee who lived in Yerington.

On April 1, Cox was discovered by authorities and taken into custody and charged with the following offenses: burglary of a business and possession of/receiving stolen property, and is currently being held at the Lyon County jail with an unknown bail amount.

On April 3, in relation to the Smith Valley Stor-All and Yerington area burglaries, detectives detained 67-year-old Lawrence Grimes.

Grimes was also charged with burglary of a business and possession of/receiving stolen property. He is currently being held at the Lyon County Jail, with a total bail amount of $15,000.

The investigations into these burglaries are still active and ongoing.

The Yerington and Sparks Police Departments are working closely with the LCSO Special Investigations Unit, which is aggressively seeking to recover a large number of stolen items.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division is asking anyone with information about these cases or who may have received stolen property from Christian Cox, Joseph Davis, Lawrence Grimes, or Jerady Smith to get in touch with them by phone at (775) 463-6600 or by email at detective@lyon-county.org.
