A man was arrested after attempting to steal merchandise and flee from the Scheels in Sparks on Monday.

The Sparks Police Department says they were called to respond to a reported larceny in progress at Scheels, located at 1200 Scheels Drive.

The person who reported the crime said the man was seen trying to leave the store with unpaid merchandise through the emergency exit but was unsuccessful and re-entered to grab more items, which he also did not pay for before leaving the store.

Sparks Police say that when Scheels' loss prevention attempted to stop him, the suspect became verbally combative and tried to flee.

He failed to get out of sight and was apprehended by SPD officers at a nearby restaurant.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Jeffery Myers, who was found to have had an active warrant for failure to comply related to a weapons charge and criminal contempt.

Scheels pressed charges for petit larceny, and Myers was taken into custody and booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges of petit larceny, use/posses drug paraphernalia, and misdemeanor criminal contempt warrant.

According to the Sparks Police Department, since January 1, 2025, Scheels has reported over 100 cases of grand and petit larceny.

These incidents are taken seriously by the Sparks Police Department, which said it is dedicated to making the community a safer place by continuing to take enforcement action as necessary to help bring justice to the businesses that are consistently victimized in our city.
