A multi-faith prayer service was held today for Pope Francis, who passed away Monday morning right after making a public appearance for Easter Sunday.

The Pope was previously diagnosed with double pneumonia and had a stroke that prompted irreversible heart failure.

Various religious leaders gathered at the Unity Center of Reno on April 22nd as they mourned the loss of Pope Francis and honored his legacy with prayer and song.

Rajan Zed, the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism and the organizer of this event, told us more about the Pope's legacy.

"We are from various religions and denominations. We belong to different traditions, and we come together here to celebrate the Pope's life and mourn his death."

Zed goes on to say, "Building bridges and working for the common good … and doing outreach to all the religions and trying to create peace in the world, and he was very humble. That is what we are celebrating. We want other religious leaders of the world to follow his lead."

In an after-faith gesture, religious leaders belonging to a number of different faiths held special prayers in their respective traditions to commemorate and celebrate the life of Pope Francis and mourn his death.

The service was also hosted by Unity Minister Toni King; the event also included prayers from Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Native American, Pagan, and many more traditions in various languages.
