The Nevada Department of Transportation is calling rumors that it needed to demolish and rebuild a bridge being built as part of U.S. 395 improvements in the North Valleys false.
NDOT Public Information Officer Meg Ragonese says that the contractor working on the project removed a temporary construction framing, or falsework, that was never meant to remain in place.
Permanent elements of the bridge, like bridge abutments, were not impacted and are still in place, she said.
The schedule for the project, including paving and other major construction elements, remain the same.
Construction is still expected to be complete by next summer, according to Ragonese.
"Routine monitoring identified unexpected, non-uniform settling in the temporary bridge construction falsework that could potentially impact long-term durability of the future bridge," said Ragonese in a statement sent to 2 News Nevada. "As a precaution to ensure the highest quality and longest durability of the bridge, NDOT and our construction partner are proactively reconstructing temporary falsework and adjoining bridge deck components before continuing construction of the new bridge."
Construction crews have poured all inside bridge decks and are working on other elements of the bridge while the concrete of those bridge decks cures.
"When complete, this important project will enhance traffic mobility and safety for the approximately 82,000 who travel this section of U.S. 395 each and every day," said Ragonese.
