Education advocates gathered in Carson City Thursday to tell lawmakers to allocate more funding for classrooms.
"We have the plan to give our districts across the state the tools to close deficits, protect programs and offer our students the education they deserve," says Beth Smith, Washoe County School District Trustee District D.
They're advocating for lawmakers to pass more than $600 million over the next two years recommended by the Commission on School Funding.
They say rising costs are making more funding necessary and if it's not granted, it could negatively impact classrooms.
They're also advocating dipping into the state's rainy day fund to help with school funding if needed.
They say the education funding proposed by the governor's budget does not go far enough.
We've reached out to Governor Lombardo's office to get a statement about education funding and have not yet heard back from him.
