BLM Nevada is partnering with the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association by offering grants for wildfire prevention. The grants aim to support communities in reducing possible wildfire risk by cutting back overgrown vegetation.
According to BLM, the grants are eligible for Nevada agencies, 501(c)(3) organizations, Fire Protection Districts, Soil and Water Conservation districts, and Native American Tribes.
Grants are offered up to $75,000, and applications are accepted from January 5 through March 1. Another grant is being offered for up to $10,000 aimed at providing education and outreach for property owners or the public, according to the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association.
Organizers say the grant for education will include activities, such as educational products, community outreach events, home evaluations, public information events, or training residents. The hazardous Fuels Reduction grant will offer management activities in the Wildland Urban Interface.
“Addressing wildfire threats across jurisdictional boundaries is critical to protecting Nevada communities, private property, the environment, and public lands,” said Kelsey Griffee, Acting BLM Nevada State Fire Management Officer.
Starting in January, you can apply by reviewing the WRRP program information, review terms and conditions, ensure your SAM.gov account is active, and complete the application. All this information can be found on their website.
“This program will fund projects that enhance safety for residents and fire personnel, protect infrastructure and private property, increase public awareness of wildfire impacts and prevention, and reduce the risk of fire spread from private to public lands, and vice versa.” said Dave Cochran, NFCA President and Fire Chief for the City of Reno.
