A seasonal program many people rely on to clear yard waste is about to return, with a few changes to how it works.
The Carson City Fire Department says the Spring 2026 open burn period will run from April 6 through May 19. Burning will be allowed during that time, but only with a permit and only when weather conditions allow.
Permits become available starting Today, March 31, and must be obtained online through the city’s website. People will need to print the permit form and keep it with them while burning. The department says permits will no longer be issued in person at its administrative office.
The open burn period is intended to give people a way to dispose of weeds and yard debris that builds up over time.
Fire officials say the permit requirement is meant to help keep the process safe for everyone involved, with daily conditions playing a role in whether burning is allowed.
