Lassen County Sheriff John McGarva has issued a declaration stating that mountain lions are an imminent threat to public safety.
It comes after multiple reports of sightings in the Gold Run area.
According to a post on Facebook, The Lassen County Sheriff's Office began to get reports about mountain lions in the Summer of 2025, with some those reports involving mountain lions who are coming within feet of homes.
A neighborhood canvass was conducted by contacting several residents. According to the sheriff's office, all acknowledged the presence of both lions and black bears in the area.Â
Most of the residents contacted told deputies they had seen lions on their cameras. One resident located a deer kill approximately 20 yards from his fence line. Â
The Sheriff’s Office is continuing to work with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in addition to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to bring a resolution to the situation.Â
Those who have had contact with the mountain lions in the area are encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 530-257-6121.
