Operation Safe Washoe

"Operation Safe Washoe," an operation carried out by multiple partnering local law enforcement agencies, was recently completed.

The operation focused on conducting compliance checks on registered sex offenders within Washoe County.

The op was carried out by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Notification Unit, Nevada Parole and Probation Sex Offender Unit and the U.S. Marshals Nevada Violent Offender Task Force.

410 compliance checks were completed over the duration of the operation, resulting in 25 arrests and the identification of 41 offenders who were non-compliant.

The charges brought forth in the arrests were:

  • 3 counts of failure to obey sex offender registration laws
  • 1 count of indecent exposure (2nd offense)
  • 24 counts of parole and probation violations
  • 2 warrant arrests for sex crimes

Officials say the primary objective of the operation was to make sure that registered sex offenders are sticking to their registration requirements.

The agencies involved in the operation will continue to monitor registered sex offenders and conduct compliance checks.
