This morning, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) of Nevada held its annual "Out of Darkness Walk" at the Sparks Marina.
The event marked the organization's 10th anniversary.
In addition to the walk itself, there were raffles, face painting and a sound bath; followed by their special bead ceremony to honor family members lost to suicide.
According to Cynthia Tate, a board member with AFSP of Nevada, "There are ten beads altogether - different colors - and what will happen is each person who represents a bead will stand and then tell their story. And so it's very, very powerful and very emotional."
The AFSP has many resources available if you or someone you know ever need help or are struggling with the loss of a family member. They also offer home visits or phone conversations.
You can find more information about the resources they offer at the AFSP website.
