Deputies responded to a hit-and-run in Churchill County involving a driver allegedly under the influence. They later found that a dog was killed in the incident.

It happened in the Fallon area on November 27, the Churchill County Sheriff's Office says.

According to the Churchill County Sheriff's Office, in an online post, deputies later found the driver and charged them on suspicion of being under the influence.

The dog, named Baby Girl, was lying in the hands of its owner after being hit. She was taken to the Fallon Animal Shelter, where she died.

In the weeks that followed, the Fallon Animal Shelter, and the Gardens Funeral Home waived fees to allow the department to provide Baby Girl's ashes, a molding of her paw print, and clippings of her hair to her owner.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the Fallon Animal Shelter donated a pet to the owner.
