A pedestrian was killed after a car struck them on the eastbound lanes of I-80 near Carlin.
This happened on Tuesday, December 23, at approximately 5:37 a.m. near Elko County mile marker 4.
Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol conducted a preliminary investigation and found that a driver was involved in a separate crash at the on-ramp of I-80. That same driver got out of their car and went to the eastbound lane of I-80.
Troopers talked with a witness and discovered that the same person was yelling, jumping, sitting, and standing on the lane. They were then hit by another car, identified as a Volkswagen, and were brought down to the ground on the outside shoulder.
NHP says the pedestrian had died on the scene and the death is being investigated. They also added that the identity of the person will be released once the family is notified.
The crash is an open investigation; you are urged to contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111 or e-mail ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us if you have any information.
