Police shot at a person in Sparks Tuesday morning, and the person later fled in a vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash near McCarran Boulevard and Victorian Avenue.

According to the Sparks Police Department, they received a call just before 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday that officers were involved in a shooting on Kleppe Lane in Sparks.

Sparks police say the person who was shot at got into a vehicle and fled from the scene. Responding officers then pursued the person before the chase ended in a crash near the intersection of McCarran Boulevard and Victorian Avenue.

The person shot at by police is in custody, according to Sparks police. That person was treated for reported minor injuries. 

Sparks police say one of their officers was involved in the incident. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is the lead investigating agency, with Reno police serving as the secondary agency.

The shooting, pursuit, and crash prompted a large law enforcement response in the area around 10 a.m. Emergency vehicles were lined up along Victorian Avenue, while police activity was concentrated around three vehicles on McCarran Boulevard.

Southbound McCarran Boulevard at Nichols Boulevard and westbound Victorian Avenue at McCarran Boulevard remain closed. The closures began at 10 a.m. and, according to police, will remain in place and could last for several hours.

Sparks police, Reno police, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, and REMSA are on scene.

Drivers are being asked to use an alternate route while the closures remain in effect.
