The President of the University of Nevada, Reno, Brian Sandoval, has presented his 2024 State of University Address.

Some highlights in the address include a lot of their future plans like the Reno arena becoming the new home to the men's basketball team, several improvements for women's athletics, providing affordable housing to staff and students in a new project called University Village, and more construction projects.

Sandoval says, "You see our business building on the south end of campus, that'll be finished next year. We'll break ground on a new health sciences building, we're incredibly excited about that. Those two buildings will be incredibly transformative."

The new State of Public Health building that is expected to be done in 2026. Renown's partnership is now offering scholarships for nursing students.

The school is also expanding their Lake Tahoe campus. Securing millions of dollars of federal funding for a new institution for study of freshwater species and a state-of-the-art deep water research vessel.

But these are only a few of many successes.

Sandoval adds, "We were just designated a tech innovation hub. There were over 400 applications, and we are only one of 12 applicants that were funded."

Sandoval says it centers around the "Lithium Loop" project. UNR is the leader of mining lithium, processing it, putting it in the advanced manufacturing process, and recycling.

He says council from several countries have been visiting the university due to our reputation of excellent research reaching more than 100 countries across the world.

"Continuing to improve our reputation as one of the top research universities in the United States of America, a tier one university, our trajectory is moving and increasing, and our reputation is one that I think any person would be proud to send their son or daughter here."
