The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Council has announced employee furloughs have been lifted – days after initially putting them in place.

On its website, the Tribe’s chairman says, “All departments/employees affected by the furlough have been re-instated and have reopened as of Monday, October 6th.”

Chairman Steven Wadsworth did not say why the furloughs were lifted, just that they were put in place initially due to the ongoing government shutdown.

At the time, the temporary layoff affected 25 people across several offices including parks and recreation, and museum and visitors center.

OCTOBER 2, 2025:

Due to the current ongoing federal government shutdown, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has furloughed 25 employees.

Several offices are also closed including:

* Museum and Visitors center

* Cultural Center and Library

* Parks and Recreation

* Natural Resources

* JOM program

* Lands Office

* Higher Education

“As the government shut down (sic) continues other departments may become limited in operation. These furloughs are necessary to ensure continued operation of public safety, such as the Police, EMS and Food Bank," says Tribe Chairman Steven Wadsworth in a letter.
