The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada hosted a volunteer open house and blood drive on Saturday.
It provided an opportunity for the community to learn more about the resources available to them.
Organizers say volunteers from northern Nevada deploy across the country to help with national disasters, but they also help out right here at home.
"We also respond to home fires," said Bridget Posson, Executive Director, American Red Cross of Northern Nevada. "So, if there's a home fire in the area and those folks affected by that fire would like American Red Cross assistance, we have volunteers that come out and assist them."
Volunteers are also available to help install smoke alarms for free.
Organizers say the blood drive was a success and exceeded their goal for donations.
