Saturday Storm Watch - Photo

This week's storms may be over, but neighbors are still fighting the snow.

Amy Vigil from Lemmon Valley said she had to call out of work one day and make other arrangements the rest of the week.

"Tuesday, we had to call out of work because it was really bad. We were able to get through Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, just driving slowly," she said. "I had to share a car with my daughter because she really doesn't like to drive in this weather. So, we commuted together."

While vigil is fighting with the snow, another neighbor is welcoming it.

"I know the mountains definitely needed it and I'm very happy to have it. I know some people aren't, but I love it," said Andy Sowards, also from Lemmon Valley.

Sowards says he lived in Texas for 50 years, hated the humidity, and moved here. He lives in an apartment, so he doesn't need to clear his own snow. As for vigil, she's been clearing her driveway for days -- a task that she said shouldn't be put off.

"Definitely shovel while it's fresh powder and not wait a couple days because then it is just too hard to deal with," Vigil said.

Vigil says the City of Reno hasn't plowed the roads in her neighborhood. The city considers neighborhood streets as Priority 3, meaning they're plowed after major roads and bus routes - Priorities 1 and 2, respectively.

On our major highways, Sowards says he respects the work the Nevada Department of Transportation, or NDOT, is putting in.

"With all the snow that we got, it's definitely kind of been a challenge sometimes," he said, "but they're doing good clearing the roads, especially 395."

Whether or not your road is plowed, neighbors say the best you can do is drive safe and have patience.

"When we get a storm like this, usually 2 or 3 days later, the roads are great to drive on," Sowards said.

"Drive safe and be patient because we will get through this for sure," Vigil said.

We have reached out to the City of Reno for more information on when plows were sent out but haven't heard back at the time of writing.
