The Reno Police Department (RPD) is expecting a busy weekend, with protests and several large community events happening on Saturday.
RPD says that they have developed a "comprehensive operational plan" that includes an increase in staffing, strategic placement of personnel, and close cooperation with law enforcement partners to keep the streets safe this weekend.
"Peaceful demonstration is a vital part of our democracy, and we are committed to protecting that right while ensuring the safety of everyone in Reno," said Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance.
RPD would like to pass on these safety reminders for the public, ahead of the busy weekend:
- Stay informed: You can follow official updates from RPD, City of Reno, and or any trusted media outlet
- Plan ahead: Expect heavier traffic near events and demonstration areas. Allow extra travel time, or avoid the areas.
- Peaceful participation: Those attending protests are urged to demonstrate lawfully
- Report concerns: Dial 911 for emergencies, or for non-emergency situations call the RPD non-emergency dispatch at (775) 334-2677.
