As temperatures continue to rise, we can expect to see more pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcycle riders on the roads.
Officers say that it is important for everyone to have patience with each other and that it will take extra awareness from everyone to help keep people safer.
"There's more driving going on, people are taking trips, they are traveling around town. I think it is just important that everyone pays extra attention on the roadway to each other, that's the biggest thing, you know. If you are paying attention to other people, you are a lot less likely to be involved in a crash, or an accident, or striking somebody else," said officer Stephen Greenlee, Public Information Officer for the Reno Police Department.
Officer Greenlee says that everyone should try to make eye contact with drivers in certain situations as it helps confirm that everyone can see each other.
He also says that speeding in busier areas makes it easy to miss people, so slowing down and double checking your surroundings is crucial.
Because warmer months bring more people out, one person says it can be difficult to walk safely around town.
"It often feels like downtown pedestrians don't have the right of way and so you kind of have to act like you are in the flow of traffic and make eye contact with the drivers. Obviously look both ways before crossing the street but sometimes you just have to take initiative of hey, I'm going to go, and they usually stop for you," said Laura Cooper.
The Reno Police Department also wants to remind people to stay extra alert at night, as darkness makes it a lot easier for crashes to happen.
