Defond missing 1

Authorities need your help finding a missing Fernley mother and her seven-month-old daughter.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office says initially 28-year-old Twyla Defond was arrested and booked into the Lyon County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant in early April. She spent few weeks in custody before being transferred to a rehabilitation center at the end of April. Deputies say less than a week later, she walked away from the rehabilitation facility and was picked up in the desert by her boyfriend and one of his friends. They stayed in Fallon before returning Fernley the next day.

A few days later, the Third Judicial District Court for Lyon County issued a warrant for her arrest for Failure to Comply with a Specialty Court Order. The warrant ordered Defond be held without bail upon arrest.

On the same day, witnesses reported that she had left the home with her seven-month-old daughter, of whom she had legal custody. Investigators have not been able to identify a car in relation to this case and it was reported Defond likely walked away.

Deputies say based on the reporting requirements for an AMBER Alert, they say this situation does not meet the requirements at this time. If that changes, additional information will be released.
