Today, if you hear a helicopter and see Santa waving from above, it is all part of a familiar holiday visit to Fallon.
Santa will make his annual flyover of the city beginning around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, December 18, riding in an MH-60S helicopter with the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center Search and Rescue team from Naval Air Station Fallon.
The visit is a long-running tradition and a way for the Navy to thank the Fallon community for its continued support.
“NAS Fallon, along with NAWDC, could not be happier to assist in helping conduct this flyover for Santa as a way to express our appreciation for all the town of Fallon does to support the US Navy,” said NAS Fallon Commanding Officer Michael Haymon.
The flyover is expected to be brief, with only short increases in noise as the helicopter passes overhead.
The Navy said safety remains its top priority and the flight will be conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
Weather permitting, Santa’s route will take him over local schools, giving children a chance to look up and wave as he passes by.
People are encouraged to watch the skies over Fallon starting at 11:30 a.m.
Any timing updates or schedule changes will be shared on the NAS Fallon Facebook page.
