Fans of fast-paced roller derby have a chance to shape the action as Sierra Regional Roller Derby kicks off its season with two home games at El Sol de Nevada on March 28.

Sierra Regional Roller Derby is back for the season with its first home games located at 1580 Hymer Ave. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. for the opening game at 3 p.m., featuring the Mountain Maulers against the Creatures of the Lake.

The second game starts at 5 p.m. and will feature a special fundraising matchup full of Hijinks, with Sierra Battle Born facing the Sierra All-Stars. During this game, fans get to vote on rule changes by donating, directly influencing the outcome.

The more donations fans contribute, the more control they have over the twists and surprises on the track.

Tickets cover both games, and food, drinks, and merchandise will be available for purchase. All proceeds support league operations and team travel.

Sierra Regional Roller Derby competes under Women’s Flat Track Derby Association rules. Flat-track roller derby is a growing international sport, and the Sierra All-Stars are ranked by WFTDA. The game has two halves, and the team with the most points wins. Each team has one jammer who scores points by passing opponents, while four blockers try to prevent the opposing jammer from scoring.

“Sounds easy? It’s a bit more complicated, so come see the game for yourself!” the league said. “It’s a fun, fast game, and SRRD games are family-friendly.”
