Per Washoe County School District Police, both Smithridge Elementary and Pine Middle Schools have been reopened and are resuming as normal.
The following statement was provided to families by the schools (with the name of the school and principal name changed for Pine):
"Good afternoon, Smithridge Elementary School families—Â
This is Principal Mike Dixon.
I want you to be aware that there was a report of police activity near our school today. We notified school police and placed the campus on a brief Secured Campus to ensure everyone was safe. During this incident, teaching and learning continued in our classrooms.
I would like to reassure you that our school police department works in partnership with our local law enforcement agencies in situations like this. The safety and security of our students and staff members is our highest priority every day here at Smithridge. Â
