Less than a month after the Sparks City Council voted to approve funding for Flock Safety license plate readers, they unanimously approved funding for live feed security cameras.

The Sparks Police Department says these cameras will mainly get installed at four-way intersections and they will be strategically placed to work with other crime fighting technology throughout the city.

"Well, in order to assist patrol with real time crime and analytics, you have to be able to see. And so we developed some blind spots in the city where we didn't have existing traffic cameras, or we didn't have any current other infrastructure cameras or anything like that," said Sergeant Eddie Wilson with the Sparks Police Department's Real Time Information Center.

Some of the areas that are considered blind spots include multiple intersections along Victorian Avenue and Pyramid Way, as well as G Street.

Some of these areas are known as hot spots, and when crime occurs, Sergeant Wilson says the cameras will support the other systems already in place.

The Sparks Police Department says we could see these cameras in action as soon as July 1. Which, they say, is great timing because of multiple big events happening soon, which will bring an influx of visitors to the area.
