Due to an increase in complaints of dirt bikes being driven on public roads and sidewalks, The Sparks Police Department has issued a reminder to the public outlining the laws.

In an online post, Sparks Police say they have recently seen an increase in complaints regarding the use of dirt bikes on public roads and sidewalks in the City of Sparks.

They provided some information to help clear up any confusion and outline the laws related to these complaints.

The Sparks Police Department says it violates Nevada Revised Statue 490.090 to operate an off-highway vehicle (i.e. dirt bike) on a paved highway.

  • “1. A person shall not, except as otherwise provided in subsection 2 or 3, operate an off-highway vehicle on a paved highway that is not otherwise designated for use by off-highway vehicles.”
It is also in violation of Sparks Municipal Code 10.60.020 to drive a motorized vehicle on a sidewalk.

  • “Section 10.60.020 - Sidewalk use restrictions. It is unlawful for any person to ride or drive, or cause to be ridden or driven, any horse or other animal, or to ride or drive, or cause to be driven, any motor vehicle upon or along any sidewalk.”
Police want to remind the public that violations of the above-mentioned laws could result in a citation or an arrest.
