The City of Sparks is looking for professional artists or artist teams to submit portfolios and design concepts for a mural that will highlight the city’s history in honor of America’s 250th birthday in 2026.
The project, funded through a grant from Travel Nevada as part of the America 250 Initiative, will be painted inside the city-owned, 250-seat outdoor amphitheater. The mural aims to showcase Sparks’ historic downtown, celebrate the community’s heritage, and educate residents and visitors about the city’s contributions to building the nation.
The process will start with an open call for artists living in Nevada. The chosen artist or artist team will receive $17,000 to cover time and materials.
The city plans to reveal the finished mural during a public event featuring live music and guided tours of historic downtown Sparks, in partnership with the Sparks Heritage Museum.
“We are excited to celebrate America’s 250th birthday through art and collaboration in 2026,” said Raquel Monserrat, special events supervisor for the City of Sparks. “This public art piece will reflect our historic downtown and the importance of the American West in building our country.”
Artists interested in submitting must provide design concepts and examples of previous work by March 1, 2026. More information and application details are available at cityofsparks.us/callforartists.
