The oldest museum in Nevada turned 120 years old today.

To celebrate, the Nevada Historical Society held a birthday party to honor all of the work that's been done to preserve Nevada's history.

Staff with the historical society hope to continue being a valuable resource for those who want to learn about our state's history.

"Preserve our materials in photography, manuscripts, artifacts, and how we can share that history with gallery exhibits, people coming to do research. Researchers from around the world contact us. That's our mission is to preserve the history for everyone," said Sheryln Hayes Zorn, Curator of History for the Nevada Historical Society.

The event featured 20 different educational groups, gallery tours and live demonstrations.

Because of this milestone, the Nevada Historical Society received two proclamations and certificates of congressional commendation.

The city of Reno has also declared May 4th as Nevada Historical Society Day.
