Martin Luther King Jr. Day is fast approaching, and the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is hosting a service event to honor the late Dr. King.

On Monday, January 20, starting at 9:00 a.m. the foundation is hosting a Bio Blitz at the Rosewood Nature Study Area, off of Veteran's Parkway in Reno. The address is 6800 Pembroke Drive.

The Parks Foundation says they are in the process of restoring the Rosewood area to a functional wetland habitat.

This event gives members of the community the chance to lend a hand in that restoration.

Volunteers will be tasked with helping to clean up the wetland and identify different plants and wildlife.

The wetland activities will run from 9:00 am. until Noon, and an optional social hour will follow in the Nature Center until 1:00 p.m.

All ages are welcome to volunteer; those who are interested can register for the event on the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation website.
