The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety has released their year-to-date report on traffic fatalities, and the numbers are up compared to this time last year.
Looking at state numbers overall, the number of crashes has gone up by 3.05% from 295 crashes at this time in 2023 to 304 crashes so far this year.
Fatalities resulting from crashes also went up in Nevada, from 327 last year to 335 up to this point this year, a rise of 2.45%.
When breaking the data down by county, Washoe County has actually brought numbers down in most categories.
Crashes are down in the county (-9.52%) as well as overall fatalities (-4.65%), pedestrian deaths (-37.50%) and bicyclist deaths (-25%).
There is one category in which Washoe County saw a jump in the numbers - motorcyclist deaths. Compared to last year's 7 at this time, up to this point in 2024 we've seen 12 motorcyclist deaths.
The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety wants to remind people that the report is a point in time comparison.
