4th Annual Carpe Diem Fishing Derby

The 4th Annual Carpe Diem Fishing Derby, presented by Scheels, will take place on June 28 at the Rosewood Nature Study Area, located at 6800 Pembroke Drive in Reno.

The annual event is proudly presented by 2 News Nevada, and 2 News anchor Ryan Canaday will serve as emcee.

According to a Facebook post by Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, online registration opens May 26.

Organizers of the event recommend that anyone interested in participating in the event not wait; reserve your spot early and bring the whole family for this fun fishing event!

Walk-up registrations will be accepted the morning of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Fishing will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 12 p.m. Fish caught before 8 a.m. will not be eligible for weigh-in.

Participants must be in the weigh-in line by 12 p.m.

Winners will be announced near the Nature Center between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Thanks to Scheels' generosity, all kids taking part in the derby will receive free fishing poles. The poles will be given out on the day of the event.

Prizes will be awarded in both adult and children’s categories. A grand prize will be given to the adult and the child who catch the most carp. Additional trophies will be awarded in both age groups for the longest, heaviest, and shortest carp caught during the event.

Snacks, raffle tickets, shirts, and other items will be available for purchase at the event.

Proceeds will support the derby and the Rosewood Nature Study Area.

People seeking fishing help or children's fishing equipment are encouraged to visit the Nevada Department of Wildlife Area.

No dogs will be allowed at the event except for service animals.

Participants age 13 and older are required to have a valid Nevada fishing license on the day of the event.

Anyone with questions or who might need to cancel their registration is asked to email claire@tmparksfoundation.org.

The event is supported by Scheels, the Nevada Department of Wildlife, 2 News Nevada, and local community sponsors.
