Truckee Scam Awareness

The Truckee Police Department raises awareness of Imposter Scams in a Facebook post.

According to Truckee Police, imposter scams is when a scammer lies and pretends to be someone. They also try to trick you into giving them money, access to your banking or your personal information.

Truckee Police said, "Scammers often pretend to be from a business you know or from a government agency or both."

Truckee Police also say, "Scammers will then attempt to convince victims to send money through wire transfer, gift cards, or by cryptocurrency transactions."

As a reminder, no legitimate government entity or private business would ever unexpectedly demand money over the phone, or online, using these transaction methods, according to Truckee Police.

Truckee Police say more information can be found at the Federal Trade Commission's Information Page.
