The University of Nevada, Reno is getting closer to the completion of their new business building.

The University says the project will create a physical link between the University and Downtown Reno.

The business program at The University of Nevada, Reno is one of the biggest on campus, and organizers with the project say the new building will give them more breathing room and a much more modern feel.

"We quite frankly hit our space plateau. We couldn't continue to grow in the building we were in, too small of a dedicated space, and in addition to that, we really had not been able to keep up with things we needed for instruction for 21st century business," said Greg Mosier, Dean of the College of Business.

The 128,000 square foot building will feature advanced technology labs, social spaces, outdoor plazas, and more.

One of the developers with the project says they are focusing on the small details during construction to help make the business school stand out.

"This building is going to allow UNR to be competitive with all the regional business schools on the West, and it is a building design that we bench marked against many other college of business buildings to make sure UNR had the resources that they needed to really grow the program," said Donald Gibson, managing director for Edgemoor Infrastructure and Real Estate.

The building will feature views of the city and offers lots of natural lighting for students.

The University is also focusing their efforts towards being more efficient with energy and water.

Their focus on this has led to the building being a LEED certified gold building, which means the building achieve exceptional levels of environmental efficiency.

Members of the project say they can't wait for the completion of the project and believe it will benefit more than just business students.

"This is a major initiative by the University to grow the College of Business to help support local businesses coming into northern Nevada and trying to grow here. This college of business building is going to provide the University and surrounding region and the students the resources they need to really meet the opportunity that is in front of them," said Donald Gibson.

As long as construction on the building remains at its current pace, students should be able to utilize it in the Fall semester of 2025.
