On Wednesday night, University of Nevada, Reno students hosted a fundraiser for area homeless pet owners at Ruby's Shake Shop.
What started as an assignment for a class turned into students choosing a local non-profit to support and raise awareness.
The restaurant is donating a portion of its proceeds from Wednesday night to Feeding Pets of the Homeless.
"COVID hit and they have had a little bit of a struggle getting the recognition, and they lost some of their places of business, and so we're just trying to raise some awareness for them again and get some people to donate, get some dog food for these people that have these situations that they're living in," said UNR student Landon Triplett.
