The Truckee River Flood Management Authority (TRFMA) held a groundbreaking celebration today for the replacement of the existing pedestrian bridge located at Bridge Street, known as the Bridge St. Pedestrian Bridge.
According to the agency, the current bridge sits too low over the river and has contributed to flooding in recent years.
The new structure is designed to increase river flow capacity and minimize flood risks while also providing safer pedestrian access.
TRFMA said the new bridge will be similar in appearance to the Doroskar Park pedestrian bridge, which was constructed in 2022 in Sparks.
The updated Wadsworth bridge will be built to a higher elevation to allow more efficient water flow during floods.
The design firm for the project is J-U-B Engineers Inc., and the construction contractor is MKD Construction. TRFMA says the project is expected to cost around $2,400,000.Â
While the final timeline for construction is still being determined, preliminary work is already underway.
