Washoe County deputies helped a man experiencing a mental health crisis on a bridge late Wednesday night.
Deputies say a concerned person called 911 about a man standing on the outer edge of the White Lake overpass near Cold Springs just before 11 p.m.
When authorities arrived, they determined that the man was experiencing a mental health crisis and as a precaution shut down a portion of the roadway and established a secure perimeter.
Officers say the deputies worked together to gain the man's trust when eventually he agreed to step back onto the bridge, where he was medically evaluated by REMSA.
"The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to supporting mental health and encourages anyone experiencing thoughts of suicide or emotional distress to seek help. Resources are available, and no one needs to face a crisis alone," the sheriff's office says.
If you or someone you know is struggling, call the National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Help is available 24/7.
