The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is reminding the public that there are steps you can take from having your car burglarized.
Â
Officials say that any time you leave your car, you should remove all valuables.
Â
According to police; purses, bags, wallets, tools, and backpacks left in plain sight make your vehicle an easy target for criminals.
Â
Removing the valuables removes the opportunity for would-be criminals.
Â
WCSD also stresses that this includes guns, as well - leaving a gun in your car puts it ask risk of being stolen, then potentially used later in a violent crime.
Â
Deputies say the following steps should be followed any time you park:
- Remove all valuables
- Secure any firearms
- Lock your car
- Take your keys
