We're following up on a series of property crimes that were reported in the Cold Springs area over the past few weeks.
According to the investigation, between late evening and early morning hours multiple vehicles and personal property belonging to local residents were significantly damaged by BB gun rounds.
"These have resulted in significant property damage and the cost of a window is pretty costly so for victims this is adding up pretty quickly," said Sergeant Kristin Vietti, public information officer for Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
Given the similarities in each case, deputies believe these crimes are being committed by the same person or people.
Since this is an ongoing investigation not a whole lot of new information could be shared. The sheriff's office says even though crime reports are on the rise in this area, it's mainly because of the recent events.
"This specific string was a rise to the cold springs area," said Vietti. "We see overall trends usually in the summer for example vehicle burglars with unlocked cars when people start coming out to trailheads. Things like that we do see those spikes. In total for the overall 2024 we don't have the statistics that we've seen a continued trend for this year."
She says it's best to keep surveillance cameras around your house and keep a sharp eye on any suspicious activity going on in your neighborhood.
"Vehicle descriptions that can include make, model, color of a vehicle, is it a sedan, is it a truck, license plates are of course very useful in furthering our investigation," said Vietti. "Now if it were in regard to a person that you might see in the neighborhood that you've never seen, things to think about taking down the height, weight, physical descriptors like I just mentioned."
