The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is launching a sting operation with the intent of combating porch pirates, and they are looking for volunteers to help.
With the holidays upon us, porch piracy will be on the rise. In a release, the WCSO is asking for volunteers from unincorporated parts of Washoe County to offer up their porches for the operation.
The sting will happen in various neighborhoods over the coming weeks.
If you’re interested in volunteering your porch for the operation, please fill out the form at this link.
In addition to participating in the operation, residents can take the following steps to reduce the risk of package theft:
- Track your packages and plan to be home for delivery, or ask a trusted neighbor or friend to retrieve them.
- Have packages delivered to your workplace, if permitted.
- Require a signature for delivery.
- Use delivery lockers for secure drop-offs.
- Install security cameras visible from the street.
- Report suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately.
