Senior Volunteer Fair

The Washoe County Human Services Agency (HSA) Senior Advisory Board is hosting a Senior Volunteer Fair.

The fair will take place on Tuesday, January 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The fair will feature several opportunities for people in our community to come and help out our most vulnerable seniors in need. The fair will be held at the National Automobile Museum at 1 Museum Drive in Reno.

The HSA says volunteering has many benefits for those being helped and those helping by volunteering their time. Everyone can meet and make new friends, learn valuable skills, and advance one's career; the biggest benefit is being able to help someone live a happier and healthier life.

Several local organizations are participating in the senior volunteer fair, including Washoe County Senior Services, Nevada Humane Society, Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada, Seniors in Service, Reno Food Systems, National Automobile Museum, CASA, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Parkinson’s Support Center of Northern Nevada, Domestic Violence Resource Center, Awaken, Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity, Red Cross, Note-Ables Music Therapy Services, AARP Nevada, Access to Health Care, Center for Healthy Aging, Court Appointed Special Advocates, Reno Little Theater, Sanford Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Veteran’s Guest House, and Washoe County CERT.

Organizers are actively looking for seniors or anyone who wants to volunteer their time and say there are several ways a volunteer can help our community's seniors in need, such as becoming a foster grandparent or big brother-big sister, serving on a hotline or as a peer counselor, delivering meals to seniors, helping to build affordable housing, assisting in community gardens, supporting the arts, and/or being a companion to a homebound senior.
