A wind advisory is in effect for Saturday as of 11 a.m. for many areas across northern Nevada and the Sierra.
The National Weather Service in Reno has issued the advisory for Reno, Carson City, Minden, northern Washoe County, and the greater Lake Tahoe area, as well as Lassen, eastern Plumas, and eastern Sierra Counties, and Surprise Valley in California.
The advisory is set to be in place from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and knock down tree limbs, which could cause power outages, according to the NWS.
Winds could also knock down burned trees in the Davis Fire burn area.
People are advised to secure loose outdoor objects like patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds pick up.
People should also ensure they have plenty of food and water, as well as flashlights with spare batteries or candles, in case of a power outage.
Winds can also make driving more difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
