A man has been arrested following a brief standoff outside a church in Sparks.

A member of a church located near Prater Way and 20th Street called police and said a man was possibly burglarizing his car, saying he saw someone inside.

When the caller approached the man, the man pulled a knife and threatened the caller with it according to a spokesperson for the Sparks Police Department.

The man then barricaded himself inside the car.

Police responded, as did the SWAT team and negotiators. After a brief standoff, the man surrendered.

Police say there is no threat to the public at this time and the victim did not suffer injuries.

The suspect received treatment on scene and the spokesperson said they believe he was taken to the hospital before being taken to jail.
